
Merger of PIO and OCI Card
On Jan 9th, 2015 Ministry of Home Affairs – India issued two separate notifications about the merger of PIO (Person Of India Origin) card with OCI card. in those notifications the Central Government specifies that on and from the date of publication of that notification, all the existing Persons of Indian Origin cardholders registered shall be deemed to be Overseas- Citizens of India cardholders.
Therefore, if you have a PIO (Person Of India Origin) card – that will be treated as the OCI ( Overseas Citizen of India) Card.

No. 25024/9/2014-F. I.–The Central Government hereby rescinds the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs number 26011/4/98-F. I. dated the 19th August, 2002, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part 1, Section 1, dated the 19th August, 2002 with effect from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.

No. 26011/01/2014-lC.I.– In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of Section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955), the Central Government hereby specifies that on and from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette, all the existing Persons of Indian Origin cardholders registered as such under notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs numb.er 2601 1/4/98- F. 1, dated the 19th August, 2002, shall be deemed to be Overseas- Citizens of India cardholders.
